There are certain types of proposals that are not a good fit for Óbidos Byline Times. Here are some tips to help you escape these common mistakes:
• Avoiding speculation and instead basing our articles on real-world evidence.
• Avoid pitching vague criticisms of officials, government bodies, or institutions. Instead, support your arguments with ground-based evidence.
When evaluating a potential post, here are some questions to ask yourself:
Why does this issue matter to people all over the region?
• A person’s personal story has a factor that is interesting, historical, unique or relevant for other individuals to know and learn from the experience.
• If an issue happening in your neighbourhood is an example of a wider trend, point that out so readers around the region will understand why it matters to their lives.
• What is the big-picture principle at work here (the topic)? What’s the main knowledge you want readers to gain by reading the article?
How is the best way to write about topics?
Our articles represent a range of topics, however, the goal of all of them is to assist readers learn something new, therefore:
• Conversational Tone – we aim to keep things easy to understand for readers who are not experts but are curious to learn. Our goal is to provide clear and straightforward explanations.
• A headline and introduction which is clear and direct – Each article starts with a headline and introduction that clearly convey the main idea and provide enough context for readers to grasp the topic. Even if someone only reads these two parts, they should still learn something new that they can share with others.
• Include background information – help readers understand the subject and learn something new

Before publishing any articles, we review them to ensure they meet our standards for length, style, and clarity. This process may take a few days or longer. You will have the opportunity to review any changes made to your article before it is published. By submitting your work, you are giving us permission to edit and publish it at a time that works best for our schedule.
If you submit an article, letter, photography, video, graphic work, or other type of media, unless we have a prior agreement stating otherwise, you are granting Óbidos Byline Times a perpetual, transferable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use your submission in various ways, including reproducing, distributing, publishing, displaying, editing, modifying, creating derivative works, and using it on any form of media.

Once we receive your proposal, we will review it to see if it fits with Óbidos Byline Times. If it does, we will get back to you. Next steps may involve refining your proposal, giving feedback or more information on your idea, and setting deadlines. You should hear from us within a week of submitting your proposal.
